SPICED FRUIT

1/2 c. sugar
1/4 c. cider vinegar
1 tbsp. whole cloves
4 cinnamon sticks
1 (20 oz.) can peach halves, drained with juice reserved
1 (20 oz.) can pear halves, drained with juice reserved
1 (20 oz.) can pineapple slices, drained with juice reserved
Red and green Maraschino cherries

Combine sugar, vinegar, cloves, cinnamon sticks and reserved fruit juices in large saucepan; bring to boil and boil 5 minutes. Take off stove and slip fruit into syrup. Cool to room temperature. Refrigerate in covered container at least overnight before using. Keeps for 2 weeks. Serve 1 of each fruit on lettuce leaves decorated with the red and green Maraschino cherries. Serves 6 to 8.
